El pluscuamperfecto del subjuntivo
You use the pluperfect subjunctive to describe actions in the past, when one action takes place before the other. In such cases, the action that takes place before is in the pluperfect subjunctive, and the action that takes place after is in the preterite, the imperfect or the pluperfect of the indicative.
You form the pluperfect subjunctive using the past subjunctive of haber + the past participle of the verb.
hubiera salido
hubiéramos salido
hubieras salido
hubierais salido
hubiera salido
hubieran salido
•
You also use the pluperfect subjunctive when the verb in the main clause is in the conditional.

Note that since the expression como si (as if) always refers to something that is contrary to the truth, or unreal, it must always be followed by the subjunctive, either the imperfect subjunctive or the pluperfect subjunctive.
